A motorist played a dangerous game of chicken early yesterday morning on a Melbourne road that links the state’s capital to the south west.
Police received multiple reports of a dark-coloured hatch driving outbound in the inbound lane on the Princes Freeway.
Officers spotted the car near the intersection of Kororoit Creek Road in Laverton North about 2.20am.
They attempted to intercept the vehicle, but it took off at speed.
Police boxed in the hatch in Werribee, before it came to a stop near Duncans Road.
The driver, a 39-year-old man, was arrested at the scene.
He was charged with reckless conduct endanger life, reckless conduct endanger serious injury, dangerous driving when being pursued by police, fail to stop motor vehicle on request and drugs offences.
The man was taken to hospital as a precaution.
