LEGISLATION TO BAN MISBEHAVING ADULTS FROM SCHOOLS

School principals in the south west will have the power to ban adults from school grounds.

The step is part of the state government’s strengthening of the School Community Safety Orders.

And for those out-of-line adults, it will not just be the school yard they are banned from, with contacting school staff also to be forbidden.

The new legislation will also simplify how and when immediate orders can be issued, cutting red tape and making the scheme easier to use.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll said the legislation would back teachers and school leaders with stronger powers.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe at work and at school – and we have zero tolerance for abuse, including online,” Mr Carroll said.
