WATCH: COAST GUARD ASSISTS STRANDED VESSEL IN CHALLENGING EARLY MORNING CONDITIONS

Warrnambool Coast Guard along with Ambulance Victoria’s HEMS 4 Helicopter and Water Police battled challenging weather conditions, after a was reported to be in distress off the coast of Port Campbell.

The Warrnambool Flotilla was activated around 5:30am by the Victoria Police water brigade , after a fishing trawler started taking on water.

An Australian Marine Safety Authority aircraft out of Essendon Airport was also involved in the operation, after the vessel was unable to get its bilge pump started.

Fortunately, just before the Coast Guard Vessel arrived, the trawler was able to get its pump started.

According to the vessel’s Master, unsure of the cause of the lead but believes they hit a submerged object.

Coast Guard then escorted the vessel back to the Warrnambool breakwater under its own power, in a journey that took almost five hours.
