OLIVE COLLECTION HITS THE TONNE

An olive collection has beared much fruit for a dedicated team of volunteers.

Fruit Rescue South West has collected a harvest of olives weighing 1125kg.

This bounty has since been converted into 176 litres of olive oil.

The olives have been collected from across Warrnambool and district, with more than 60 sites in the harvest.

Fruit Rescue Director Courtney Mathew said the project is designed to give people a simple, practical way to contribute to their community.

“Not everyone has time to volunteer regularly, but this is something tangible people can do,” Ms Mathew said.

“Picking a few kilos of olives might feel small, but when it all comes together, it has a real impact.”
