OIL DRUM WASHES UP ON LOCAL BEACH | VIDEO

Warrnambool’s environmental groups Good Will Nurdle Hunting and Beach Patrol 3280 have recovered a large rusted steel oil drum washed up on Logans Beach.

The groups believe the drum appears to have come from a Russian oil and energy company.

Groups member Colleen Hughson rolled the empty drum several kilometres to the beach access steps, where she contacted Warrnambool City Council who then removed it.

It could be removed because it was empty, if it had been full, extensive protocols and procedures would need to be meet to take it from the position it washed up.

This is not the first time a large drum had washed up locally, in 2024 Ms Hughson came across a drum full of hydraulic fluid which had come from China.

Smaller full oil drums have also been found on local beaches in recent times.

“The key take away from this is that Industrial waste  shouldn’t be washing up on our beaches,” Ms Hughson said.

“It is toxic and dangerous for ocean, and also for our beaches when they make landfall.”
