An offshore low-pressure system is moving east and is expected to centre just south of Portland during this afternoon’s high tide. This affects the coast from Nelson to Port Campbell, and Port Fairy is among the locations that have been identified as potentially at risk.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the tide is forecast to rise well above normal high tide marks during the peak afternoon.
The Victorian State Emergency Service and Life Saving Victoria are urging residents and visitors to stay away from beaches, tidal rivers, creeks and flooded waterways. The public are advised to avoid walking, riding or driving through waters.
The next update, Coastal Hazard Warning, will be issued at 5pm on the Bureau of Meteorology website.
