One of Australia’s largest floating solar arrays has been installed at Warrnambool’s Brierly Basin by Wannon Water.
The Brierly basin is a raw storage that holds water from the Otways and local rooftops and is now home to 1,260 floating bi-facial solar panels.
These bi-facial solar panels harvest light from both direct sunlight and reflected sunlight from the water surface below.
Wannon Water is forecasting that it will generate more than 600,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
The solar energy system floats on pontoons made of high-density polyethylene.
This project came at a cost of 2 million dollars and has been fully funded by Wannon Water
