FUNDING FOR CFA BUT NO MENTION OF SOUTH WEST YET

Funding of $365 million for the CFA will be part of the Victorian government’s 2026/27 budget, but no mention as yet of funding for south west brigades of equipment or infrastructure.

The government has announced the funding will include $26.2 million for new stations, old station upgrades and land acquisition.

This funding is for the areas of Lakes Entrance, Barongarook West, Charlton, Nar Nar Goon, Beveridge, Dereel, Mirboo North, Kingston, Woodvale and Yarrambat. 

The overall pool of money will also include $100 million for new pumpers and tankers.

Wellbeing support, new protective gear and training will be funded to the tune of $22.4 million.

A $217 million allocation will go to the forest fire agencies.

The budget will be handed down on May 6.
