PROTESTERS CONVERGE ON TOWER HILL

Members of the Tower Hill Koroit protest group gathered this morning to state their concerns about duck hunting season.

The group meet at the main entrance to Tower Hill to express their objections to duck hunting in the iconic location.

Group spokesperson Robyn Wylie said she would like to see Tower Hill changed from a state game reserve to a wildlife reserve.

“Many people are unaware duck hunting is going on at Tower Hill, that native ducks are being shot,”
Ms Wylie said.

“There was a six-month review into duck shooting by the Labor Party and they came out very strongly recommending that duck shooting should not go ahead, and Jacinta Allan overturned that finding.

“I’m sure people are scratching their heads asking are they really shooting ducks down there.”

Duck hunting season began in Victoria on March 18 and will run until June 8, with Tower Hill a legal location to hunt.

Tower Hill became a State Game Reserve in 1961, with local hunters one of the driving forces behind the revegetation of the site.
