POOL GROUP FURIOUS IT IS LEFT OFF PRIORITIES LIST

A group lobbying for the return of the Port Fairy pool has blasted Moyne Shire Council for not including them on their priority wishlist ahead of the state election this year.

On its Facebook page, the Pool Community Group-Port Fairy questioned how the pool could be left off the list.

“Really?” the post says.

“There are a thousand blue fish in our streets, there have been public rallies and hundreds of letters and pleas from people of all ages yet it doesn’t even make it into the top five?

“We understand and appreciate that our council is working behind the scenes to gather the necessary information and costings, but for goodness sake please explain to your constituents why we should not be furious about this.”

The blue fish signs have been promoted by the group for residents to collect to show their support for the re-opening of the pool.

The Pool Community Group-Port Fairy is not officially attached to Belfast Aquatics.

Roads funding leads Moyne Shire Council’s wishlist ahead of this year’s state election.

Council has named the five top priority items it will be pushing to parties and candidates ahead of the November 28 election.

Heading the list is funding for upgrades of Bartons Road in Nullawarre, a 33km Woolsthorpe-Mortlake road link, the Port Fairy footbridge and the Koroit Youth Space.

Council is also calling for funding to create a Community Benefits Policy for Alternative Energy Projects.

Council believes this policy would create a formal policy framework requiring energy developers to deliver tangible local benefits.

Mayor Jordan Lockett said Moyne played an important role.

“Moyne Shire makes a significant contribution to this state in agriculture, tourism, and increasingly in clean energy,” Cr Lockett said.

“These projects reflect what our communities need.

“We’re not asking for anything that isn’t justified on the numbers and on the evidence.”
