LONG-TERM PLAN FOR OPEN SPACES

Warrnambool ratepayers have the chance to have their say on a Open Space Strategy for the city.

Warrnambool City Council has released a draft of the strategy for the public to comment on.

High-profile public spaces such as Lake Pertobe and the Botanic Gardens are included in the strategy.

In all, the strategy will cover Warrnambool’s 169 open spaces in council control.

The strategy will cover the next 15 years.

Warrnambool City Council mayor Ben Blain said all these spaces played a part in the health and wellbeing of the community.

“As we grow, it won’t just be a question of how much open space we have, but whether it’s in the right places, and how we can make the most of it,” Cr Blain said.

“This draft strategy sets a clear direction to protect our valued natural areas, optimise the open space we already have, and grow the network alongside new communities, all while keeping long-term maintenance and financial sustainability front of mind.”

Feedback to the strategy can be made at council’s website.
