An incentive for south west motorists to not stockpile fuel has arrived today with the federal government releasing more petrol and diesel onto the market.
The government is relasing 720 million litres of fuel into the avaiable supply at the bowsers.
This represents 20 per cent of the nation’s stockpile of fuel and is aimed at relieving pressure on supplies.
Regional areas will be prioritised to ensure shortages are nipped in the bud and so farmers have the fuel they need to produce and harvest the country’s food.
The federal government announced it has not yet considered any rationing of fuel.
Panic buying is being discouraged, with this behaviour contributing to the cost of fuel rising on average by 50 cents a litre over the past fortnight.
