MINISTER OUTLINES FUEL SITUATION

Federal energy minister Chris Bowen has just put out the below statement in relation to Australia’s fuel supply.

“The Minimum Stockholding of fuel was set up to help with fuel shortages, and today we have put it to work.

While fuel continues to arrive in Australia as expected, the shortages in rural and regional Australia are real. We have seen demand for fuel double in just ten days.

I have announced that we are releasing fuel from our reserves to places that are running short

We will release millions of litres from our national fuel reserves to regional areas that are running short.

We’ve also temporarily changed the rules so we can keep fuel that would have otherwise been exported here in Australia.

There is no need to stockpile, only buy what you normally would so everyone gets their fair share.

We are focused on protecting our fuel supply, and keeping more of what we make here for Australians.”
