ERMACORA SUPPORTS WORK FROM HOME LAWS

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has announced new Work From Home laws will come into effect on September 1.

Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora has backed the concept, which includes small businesses and will allow employees to work two days a week from home.

Here is a statement Ms Ermacora provided to Fitzmedia.

“Working from home enables workers in regional communities to take up employment opportunities beyond their own community.

Work from home where practical is also great for families because it saves time and money and it gets more parents working.

If you can work from home for a small business, you deserve the same rights as someone working for a big bank.

Not everyone can work from home, but everyone can benefit.

Under the laws, small business workers who can work from home will have that right protected two days a week.

It’s about fairness – many workers in larger companies and organisations already have work from home flexibility.

It is also true that many businesses are already being innovative and using working from home as an incentive to get good staff – including remote staff that have needed skill sets.

While not all small business workers are able to work from home, those that can deserve the same rights as someone working for a Big Four or a big bank.

Across the country, Liberals are planning to end remote work and force people back to the office.

In Victoria, work from home will be just another thing that Jess Wilson and the Liberals will cut. That’s why we’ll protect it in law.”
