OPPOSITION PROMISES TOUGH STANCE ON VANDALS

The Victorian opposition has promised to get hard on vandalism to war memorials.

The announcement comes ahead of ANZAC Day services across the south west this Saturday.

The opposition reports that since 2020, more than 18 memorials and statues have been vandalised.

They claim no charges have come from these acts.

Opposition leader Jess Wilson said if elected in November, her party would get tough on these crimes.

“A liberal and nationals government will introduce tough new laws to protect war memorials and cultural sites, with penalties of up to 10 years jail and offenders forced to pay for the damage they cause.” Ms Wilson said.

“Sacred places deserve protection, and this behaviour will not be tolerated under a liberal and nationals government.”
