Warrnambool City Council is urging parents to get their children vaccinated.
Council says influenza cases in children aged under five have surged over the past decade, but vaccination rates for this age group remain low.
Council has begun its annual flu vaccine rollout, with free flu vaccines available for children aged from six months to under five years.
Warrnambool City Council Coordinator Immunisation Maria Zerbe said the figures were concerning.
“It’s concerning when overall vaccination rates are falling, yet case numbers are rising,” she said.
“All children aged from six months to under five are eligible for a free flu vaccine, but not enough are getting it.”
She urged everyone, whether they were eligible for a free flu vaccine or not, to make the time to get one.
