Moyne Shire Council has explained it is not yet in the position to search for funding for the Belfast Aquatics Port Fairy pool.
Council last week released its five top priority items it will be pushing to parties and candidates ahead of the November 28 state election.
The Port Fairy pool was not on that list, drawing criticism from those in the community pushing for the pool to be re-opened.
Moyne mayor Lockett said it was all about timing, pursuing funding support at the right level of government, at the right time.
“To apply for any government funding Council must provide a strong case backed by evidence,” Cr Lockett said.
“Specific projects must be shovel-ready.
“At this stage Council does not know the full condition of the Port Fairy pool facility, what works might be required, and how much they would cost.
“When the full report on the technical investigation into the Port Fairy pool facility is presented to councillors and the public at the May council meeting, next steps can be considered.”
The investigation into the state of the pool and its facilities is happening now, with key systems, including pool pumping and filtration infrastructure, being tested to determine their condition and performance.
