Motorists are proving discerning customers as the effects of the fuel excise cut begins to kick in.
The federal government has announced a halving of the fuel excise, from 52.6 centre per litre to 26.3.
This cut came in yesterday, April 1, and will be for three months.
But not all fuel outlets in Warrnambool and the south west have lowered their prices in line with the cut.
Some fuel retailers are still including the full fuel excise in their prices.
This is allowed as it relates to the retailer still having old stock that it purchased at the full excise rate.
Driving around Warrnambool and district, it is noticeable the higher priced outlets are much quieter than the ones that have dropped their prices due to the excise cut.
Those retailers with higher prices may take some time to empty their old stock as motorists hunt the cheapest price available.
