Warrnambool City Council’s latest plans for the city’s Industrial Estate will today begin to be set in concrete.
Construction has began on a new 1.7km footpath in the estate.
This is council’s biggest footpath project in more than two decades.
The project is being jointly funded by council and the federal government, and will come at a cost of $534,000.
Merrivale Drive, McMeekin Road, Albert Street and Braithwaite Street will be linked by the footpath.
Completion of the footpath is expected by the end of June.
Warrnambool Mayor Cr Ben Blain said the footpath would provide a big boost for safety.
“The industrial estate is a busy place, and there are a lot of people who work in the precinct and travel on foot,” Cr Blain said.
“This will make it a lot safer for everyone walking in the area, and for people who were perhaps put off from walking by the lack of footpaths, it’s encouraging them to consider walking as an option.”
