LIFE SAVING BOOST FOR MAIN STREET

Some life saving apparatus is a new addition to Koroit’s main street.

Ambulance Victoria has installed an automated external defibrillator at the Blackwood Centre in Commercial Road west.

It was presented to Moyne Shire Council staff on Wednesday.

The defibrillator is available to be used by locals and visitors in case of a cardiac arrest.

The placement of the defibrillator is part of Ambulance Victoria and the Heart Foundation’s Heat Safe Communities initiative.

The aim of this is to equip communities with the skills and resources to help save a life from cardiac arrest.

Ambulance Victoria paramedic Tara Boyce said defibrillators made a life-saving difference.

“The latest Ambulance Victoria data shows that when cardiac arrest patients are shocked by a public defibrillator before paramedics arrive, an incredible 63 per cent survive,” Ms Boyce said.

“This is compared to just seven per cent when there was no bystander CPR or AED used.”

Koroit is one of 12 Victorian towns currently completing the Heart Safe Communities program.

Another 54 towns have previously graduated as Heart Safe Communities.

The new defibrillator boosts the number of AEDs in Koroit to 12, five of which are accessible 24/7.
