CHILD CRIME, KNIVES CAUSING CHAOS

Child criminal offences in Victoria continue to trend upwards.

Victoria Police’s crime statistics report for 2025 shows child offences growing by 23,690, or 2.3 per cent.

Victoria Police arrested 1223 children a combined 6997 times.

Children were over represented in the per cent of who committed crimes, with children responsible for 57.6 per cent of carjackings, 52.6 per cent of home invasions, 47.8 per cent of aggravated burglaries and 62.4 per cent of robberies.

The youth cohort was linked closely with gang offending, with 1,480 gang related arrests made by police.

Youth crime was also strongly tied to the use of knives and machetes.

A record seizure of a 17,400 knives and machetes was made.
