ARTIST ADDS FASION TO HER BOW

Accomplished Warrnambool artist Sherry Johnstone has added fashion designer to her list of talents.

Ms Johnstone was part of the Beyond Black Runway in Melbourne, featuring first nations designers from across the country.

This was part of the Melbourne Fashion Festival.

During the show,  10 of her garments made their way down the catwalk.

Ms Johnstone, who is known for her art work and collaborations in the community, will launch her own fashion range, Flash1A, next month.

Flash1A is a slow fashion brand producing made-to-order garments from 100 per cent merino wool, with reversible knitted designs that minimise waste and extend wearability.

“Being selected for Beyond Black Runway means our stories, our culture and our design are being seen on a world stage,” Mrs Johnstone said.

“For a small regional label from Warrnambool to stand alongside leading First Nations designers from across the country is incredibly humbling and powerful.”

Mrs Johnstone said the inclusion highlights the strength of regional Aboriginal enterprise.

“This shows that world-class Indigenous fashion is being created in our regional communities,” she said.

“It’s about visibility, pride and creating pathways for the next generation of First Nations designers.”
