GREAT OCEAN ROAD TO CLOSE FOR HELICOPTER RECOVERY

The Great Ocean Road will close to traffic in both directions between Lorne and Skenes Creek today (Thursday 22 January), from 6.30am to allow for a planned helicopter recovery operation to safely remove flood-impacted vehicles from beach areas following recent extreme weather.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area, and detour wide using the Princes Highway via Colac. This detour will add significant distance and travel time to journeys.

The closure will be under the control of emergency services. The Great Ocean Road is expected to reopen to traffic around 10.30am, but that time may change given the nature of the recovery operation.
