FIRE CAUSED BY BAILING OPERATIONS

Fire brigades from across the region spent nearly five hours working to contain a grass and scrub fire in Toolong yesterday.

According to the CFA, the fire broke out just after midday and quickly spread along a paddock that run next to the Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail.

Three aircraft from Hamilton arrived to provide aerial support for more than 16 ground units, before the fire was declared under control just before 3PM.

It’s understood the fire was caused by hay bailing operations.

Thanks to the hard work of the CFA, it was contained to a paddock, with some additional hay bails also on fire.

Tankers remained on the scene for some time mopping up, before the fire was deemed safe at around 3:45.
